UTCN invests in numerous projects to improve its administrative processes. The ongoing consolidation of existing services and tools includes:
Transforming the University Ecosystem through the Digital Transition towards a Sustainable European Future eUT4ALL (14067/16.09.2022): The project focuses on developing specialized digital infrastructures, creating new study programs, and enhancing advanced digital competencies among students and staff. Key outcomes include the establishment of 15 new bachelor's and master's programs, 21 centers and laboratories meeting European standards, and the participation of 764 students and 150 faculty members in advanced digital training programs. (Coordinator: Bogdan Orza)Structured Cabling Upgrade – Muncii Campus: In June 2025, the structured cabling upgrade project for the Muncii campus buildings was successfully completed. The contract, valued at approximately 2.5 million RON, was implemented over a period of 1.5 years. The project was coordinated by the “Pusztai Kalman” Communications Center and the Technical Services team. Implementation was managed by Ionuț Câmpean and Sergiu Pasc, who can be contacted for further technical details. We anticipate that this infrastructure upgrade will significantly improve network performance for colleagues working in the Muncii area. Recent Investments in UTCN's Digital Infrastructure (2025 Update)
The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca has made significant strides in upgrading its digital infrastructure across multiple campuses. Based on these upgrades, the internal data network connections at both the Cluj and Baia Mare campuses are up-to-date with 2025 standards. Below is a brief overview of the major investments and contributions from dedicated teams involved in this effort:
Network Equipment – Cluj: A comprehensive upgrade of the university’s networking infrastructure was completed, including over 280 active devices (firewalls, routers, switches), with a total investment of 2,013,481 RON (VAT included). The team from the Center for Communications and Data (CCD), coordinated by Ioan Câmpean, played a central role in modernizing the network across UTCN locations. With this upgrade, it is expected that UTCN Cluj has now reached a fully updated status in terms of network infrastructure. (video overview)
Computing Infrastructure – Cluj: This component included new switches, routing equipment for the data center, storage systems, and servers, with a total value of 1,103,080 RON (VAT included). The IT Systems and Applications (SIA) team, led by Cristi Mocan, was responsible for implementing this upgrade. These improvements are expected to enhance the efficiency of computing and storage resources used by various UTCN applications. (Video overview)
Digital Infrastructure – CUNBM (Baia Mare): This investment covered structured cabling for the Crișan building, core network equipment, computing infrastructure, and backup power supply systems for the CUNBM node, totaling 736,420 RON (VAT included). The local CUNBM team, coordinated by Adrian Petrovan, was directly involved in executing and completing the contracts. (Video overview)
Telecommunication Equipment for Voice Services: To support voice communication interconnectivity, telecommunication infrastructure was updated with new hardware and software, totaling 175,810 RON (VAT included). This project was implemented by the Communication Center Voice team, coordinated by Virgil Dobrotă.
Interactive Displays with Videoconferencing Capabilities: A total of 120 complete systems were delivered and installed across UTCN, representing a total investment of 5,949,048 RON (VAT included). These interactive displays are expected to greatly enhance teaching, collaboration, and remote communication activities. (Video overview)
